Missoula Police had extra law enforcement out targeting drunk drivers over the extended weekend. Public Information Officer Travis Welsh has the details.

“From Friday night until early this morning, Missoula Police made nine arrests related to drunk driving and that encompasses the extra day for Labor Day,” said Welsh. “For a two day weekend I would say that is a little on the high side, but given that we had an extra day because of the holiday, it is probably not out of the usual.”

A forth and subsequent DUI is now an automatic felony. However, no felony DUI’s were issued over the weekend.

“The fact that we had nine arrests and they were all misdemeanors is not necessarily unusual, but it is worth noting that we did not have a felony arrest,” Welsh said. “The ones that we did encounter either had less than three convictions or it was maybe a first.”

Missoula Police participated in the national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.
