On September 1, 2022, at around 9:44 a.m., the Missoula Police Department announced that a bicyclist vs vehicle accident had occurred. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold provided the following statement.

"The Missoula Police Department responded to a bicyclist vs vehicle accident on August 31, 2022, just before 10:50 p.m. at the intersection of McCormick St and W. Broadway," Arnold said. "Immediate medical aid was rendered to the bicyclist and the bicyclist was transported to a local hospital. The current medical condition is unknown."

According to Arnold, the preliminary investigation indicates the bicyclist was riding the wrong way in traffic and was not equipped with the required bicycle lamps.

"All parties involved are cooperating with the investigation and several witnesses on the scene provided accounts of what they had seen to officers," Arnold said. "The witness statements corroborate the damage observed on the scene. This case is still under investigation by the Missoula Police Detective Division."
