Missoula police were called to investigate an assault that allegedly occurred at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 17, near the Reserve Street bridge.

Sergeant Jerry Odlin said the victim had to be treated at a local hospital.

"A 40 year-old transient male had been struck in the head with a hard object by another transient male in a camp, just west of the Reserve Street bridge," Odlin said. "The victim was transported to the hospital where he was treated for non life-threatening injuries. The suspect is still at large, but we don't consider him to be a threat to the public at this time."

Odlin provided a description of the assault suspect.

"The suspect is about five feet and 10 inches tall with long, unkempt brown hair," Odlin said. "He generally wears a denim jacket, with a brown fishing vest underneath. He was possibly wearing a black hoodie. He also carries a long skateboard. The suspect has scruffy facial hair, but not a full beard, and he usually has a black bandana that he pulls over his face."

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of this suspect is asked to call Missoula Crimestoppers at 721-44-44.
