Missoula Police Honor Three Residents Who Stepped Up
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On July 21, 2026, the Missoula Police Department recognized and celebrated three citizens. Police Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett provided the following statement.
“Every day, members of our community make choices that can have a lasting impact on the lives of others,” Bennett said. “Recently, Chief Mike Colyer had the privilege of presenting Citizen Commendations to three individuals whose courage, quick thinking, and willingness to act exemplify what it means to serve others.”
Bennett said Malakhi was recognized for his actions during a critical incident after hearing what he believed to be a gunshot.
“Rather than ignore what he heard, he investigated the area and located an adult woman suffering from a gunshot wound,” Bennett said. “He immediately helped control the bleeding and directed responding officers to her location, helping ensure she received emergency medical care as quickly as possible.”
According to Bennett, the officers who responded later had the opportunity to meet with Malakhi in a more positive setting, where they personally thanked him for his actions and recognized the meaningful difference his quick thinking and willingness to help made that day.
“Fawn and Sydney were also presented with Citizen Commendations for their actions during an incident at a local preschool graduation ceremony,” Bennett said. “When a non-custodial parent attempted to forcibly remove a child from the event, they acted quickly and appropriately to intervene, helping prevent the child from being taken until law enforcement officers arrived and safely resolved the situation. Their calm decision-making and courage helped protect a child during a stressful and rapidly unfolding event.”
