At approximately 3:40 p.m. this afternoon, Missoula Police responded to an apartment complex at 1405 East Broadway for the report of gunshots. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“Upon arrival officers discovered an adult male deceased in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the head. He is a 33 year old male. Witnesses have identified a suspect as 33-year-old Christopher Newrider who fled the scene on foot prior to officers’ arrival. The investigation is on-going, and the search continues for the suspect.”

Welsh described Newrider and said he is believed to be armed and dangerous.

“Newrider is a white male, 6’0/200 lbs. last seen wearing a black ‘watch-cap’, black hoodie, and black shoes. He has brown hair & green eyes and currently has dark facial hair. Newrider is believed to be armed with a handgun, and dangerous. Given the cold temperatures Newrider may be in search of warmth; either in a vehicle or structure. MPD is advising those on the North Side of the river to secure your vehicles, and lock your doors.”

If Newrider is seen, please contact 9-1-1 immediately. Welsh urged citizens not to approach him. KGVO will provide more information as it becomes available.

Newrider pleaded guilty to assault and kidnapping in 2008, and was involved in a stabbing incident in 2018.
