Missoula Police Arrest Man for His 7th DUI
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On October 1, 2022, at approximately 10:55 a.m., a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Deputy observed a black Ford F150 make a northbound turn onto Old Highway 93 South from Brooks Street. The driver made a wide right turn and veered over the center yellow line. The driver then came to an almost complete stop in the roadway after the turn even though there were no obstructions in the way.
The truck then proceeded slowly, again driving over the center-left line into the oncoming traffic lane. The truck then turned into the Silver Slipper parking lot and almost drove over a concrete parking divider. The driver then reversed the vehicle, then drove forward into a parking space. The Deputy initiated a stop of the vehicle and driver.
The Deputy could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle and the driver was identified as 49-year-old William Mayfield. The deputy asked Mayfield if he had been drinking and Mayfield stated, “a bit.”
Mayfield had slurred and delayed speech, and bloodshot and glassy eyes. The deputy asked Mayfield to exit the vehicle for field sobriety tests. As Mayfield exited the vehicle, the deputy could smell the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Mayfield’s breath. The deputy also observed an unopened can of Bud Light and an open can of Mike’s Hard Lemonade in the cup holder in the center console.
Mayfield told the deputy that he didn’t know what he was drinking and refused all field sobriety testing. Mayfield was placed under arrest for DUI. The deputy obtained a blood draw search warrant and Mayfield’s blood was drawn at St. Patrick Hospital. According to court documents, Mayfield has six prior DUI convictions from 2012 (2x), 2011, 2008, 1998, and 1992.
He is currently being charged with felony DUI, which is a fourth or subsequent offense. According to the Missoula County Jail Roster, Mayfield was released on October 3, 2022, at 3:56 p.m.
