Missoula Police Are Called To Check On Children In A Hotel, Find Man With Drugs

At around 8:30 Monday night, Missoula Police were called to a hotel in the 3300 block of Brooks St to check on the welfare of a child. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“Apparently a young child had wandered in to the lobby and staff members had returned the child to a room where an adult male and female had checked in,” said Welsh. “At the time, staff knew that they had two young boys and became concerned that they weren’t being properly supervised.”

Welsh says officers made contact with the adult couple and determined that the children were in good care. As the couple explained how one child got out of the room, officers noticed something suspicious on the male inside.

“During the contact, they learned that the male had in his possession what was later determined to be methamphetamine and also marijuana,” Welsh said. “He was taken into custody and is under arrest for possession of a dangerous drug. His name is Mathew McCormack and he is 29 year of age.”

The report indicated that McCormack and the female work for the same company and decided to share a room.  Welsh says the woman is the mother of the two young boys, but it is unclear what McCormick’s relationship is to the children.
