Missoula Parks and Recreation is throwing a party and everyone's invited. The Missoula Westside Park and Playground is having their grand opening celebration coming up on Saturday October 29th from 4p-6p. This is a playground and a play area that was designed by kids for kids. This will be an event for the entire family. With it being so close to Halloween costumes are encouraged. Food trucks are planning on being there for the event, the Pattee Wagon and the FFA Taco Truck serving up the eats. There will be a dance for the kiddos DJed by Coach Shane, he is known around these parts as the "Professor of Fun".

This has been an incredible effort by the Missoula community. Everything from the initial idea to fundraising to building, this has been a process. It has taken two years of building seasons to finally be able complete the project. This is a playground that tried to embrace inclusivity every step of the way. Heidi West, Ward 1 City Council Member has been an integral part of this process and she had this to say about the project.

Seeing the community built wooden playground of the 90s be deconstructed this spring by some of the same neighbors that helped build it, illustrated the long term commitment of people to community improvement.  A whole generation of children  grew up loving the old playground and it is only appropriate that a similar child focused community effort resulted in the park and playground we have today:  A playground designed by kids for kids and built by a community of adults that understand and value the importance of play for longterm health and success. Project Westside Park is a $2.8 million dollar project. It was aspirational and ambitious. Through consistency, dedication, creativity, solid partnerships and many, many contributions the impossible was made possible.  That is worth celebrating!

The Missoula Parks and Rec want to remind people if you planning on wearing costumes, please remember that young kids will be in attendance so they ask that you please refrain from any costumes that would have any weapons either prop or real. No gory costumes or fake blood. We are all hoping for great weather, but be aware that this event is planned to happen whether we rain snow or sun, so be prepared for any weather.

The Missoula Parks and Rec is also open to someone who has a family friendly activity to be involved in the fun, if you would like to be involved just email Heidi West at adelheid.west@gmail.com. So let's get ready to have some fun for everyone on October 29th!
