Missoula Man Takes Woman’s Phone So She Can’t Call 911

On June 22, 2022, a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched to a report of a domestic disturbance in Lolo, Montana that had occurred earlier in the day. The deputy made contact with the victim, Jane Doe, who explained what had occurred.

Doe indicated that been in a dating relationship with 37-year-old Cody Clark for the past eight months. Three weeks prior, she attempted to end their relationship. Doe advised that Clark became increasingly violent since then.

Doe relayed a domestic violence incident that occurred roughly one week prior. Doe noted that they were both in her apartment arguing because Clark believed she had cheated on him. At some point during the verbal argument, Doe noted that Clark grabbed her head and threw her onto the bed and ground. He stepped on her foot while doing so and injured her toes. Doe later reported to detectives that she believed her toe was broken during this incident because she continued to experience pain. Sometime during the altercation, Doe’s upper lip was also cut.

On June 21, 2022, Clark showed up at Doe’s work and offered to give her a ride home. Doe agreed and allowed Clark to take her home. While at her residence, Clark started to get agitated with Doe and accused her of cheating on him. Between midnight and 1:00 a.m., Doe awoke to Clark yelling and throwing things around her apartment.

Court documents indicate Clark was irate and calling her names. He proceeded to break her TV and punch holes in the drywall of her apartment. Doe noted that she was “scared to death” of him. Doe advised that she placed a call to 911, but almost immediately hung up given the situation. Doe said that Clark refused to let her leave the apartment.

Doe reported that a few hours later, Clark realized she might be using her cell phone to call for help. Clark then took her phone to prevent her from doing so. Doe reported after he took her phone, she ran out of the apartment, but Clark caught her outside. Doe reported screaming for help, but said no one came. Clark then shoved her back into her apartment.

Doe reported at around noon on June 22, 2022, Clark was calming down and agreed to allow her to go get a pack of cigarettes. That is ultimately when she was able to escape the situation and get help.

Clark was arrested and transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. He is currently being charged with two felony counts of Partner or Family Member Assault and criminal mischief. It was subsequently discovered that Clark has three prior convictions for Partner or Family Member Assault.
