At about 1:15 Monday morning, Missoula Police responded to the report of a disturbance at a residence in the 700 block of Stephens Avenue. According to Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh, the caller was parked outside the residence and was receiving text messages from her female friend that was inside.

“The officers met briefly with her and then went inside to find the couple,” Welsh said. “The male had reportedly been suicidal at one point and had locked himself into a bathroom. Officers observed what appeared to be minor skin injuries on the surface of the female and requested EMS to respond. One officer went to the bathroom and tried to speak to the male. He was initially uncooperative, but eventually came out.”

Welsh says the man was placed under arrest for strangulation of a partner or family member.

“During his escort out to one of the awaiting patrol cars, the arrestee, identified as 23-year-old Charles Hall, began to pull against the officers and appeared to be resisting arrest. At one point, he actually kicked one of the officers in the chest before being placed in the patrol car.”

As a result, Hall was charged with assaulting a peace officer. Before being sent to jail, Hall was initially transported to the hospital because of his statements about suicide.
