An unidentified Missoula man killed a charging female grizzly bear over the weekend with a .44 caliber pistol. According to Vivaca Crowser with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks, the unidentified man was hunting for shed antlers in the Blackfoot-Clearwater Wildlife Management area on Sunday when the incident occurred. My interview with Ms. Crowser is attached.

Ms. Crowser warns recreationists that bears are out of hibernation and many have cubs, which can make them unpredictable and very dangerous. She encouraged visitors to bear country to carry bear spray, and to never travel alone.
