Missoula Law Enforcement Memorial Pays Tribute to the Fallen

On a night that will be remembered for a steady rain that fell during the ceremony, the 19^th annual Law Enforcement Memorial commemoration took place at Rose Memorial Park.

One individual that was specifically called out in remembrance was Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Wade Palmer, who was critically wounded on March 15 and is now recovering at the University of Utah Hospital in Salt Lake City.

The guest speaker for the evening was Montana Lieutenant Governor Mike Cooney, who also remembered Palmer, as well as all those whose names are etched on the Rose Park memorial.

“Governor Bullock and I know that Montana’s law enforcement officers are heroes in this world, blessed with the gift of watching over others, to serve and protect,” said Cooney. “One of the greatest challenges that men and women of law enforcement face is that they can never be completely sure what will happen on any given day”

Cooney then took a moment to remember Trooper Palmer.

“I’d like to take a moment to give our thoughts to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Wade Palmer,” he said. “I’m inspired by the ongoing community support and prayers. In his long road to recovery, know that Montana has his back and the backs of his family.”

Addressing all the law enforcement officers in attendance, Cooney finished with this statement.

“Our state is safer and stronger because of your courage, commitment and sacrifice. On behalf of all Montanans, thank you.”

Several law enforcement officers were also singled out for bravery and service by the Missoula Police Department, the Sheriff’s Office, the Montana Highway Patrol and the University of Montana Police Department.
