Missoula Fire Danger Reaches Extreme This Evening

Missoula County has just been moved into an extreme fire danger level.

"We have live fuels and dead fuels," Public Relations Officer Jordan Koppen said. "Our dead fuels are carrying out under extreme circumstances here they have no moisture content in them and our live fuels are starting to dry out too, to the point where they go up in flames so easily."

Koppen says there are currently no restrictions yet, but there are safety precautions we need to be aware of especially with the 4^th of July around the corner.

"We're just urging the public to check your trailers," Koppen said. "Make sure your tires are properly inflated, and check the rims, you know we just don't want any sparks to cause any fires too because right now things are so cured out. The other thing is fireworks, red flag warning for us with fireworks. We don't want anything to happen with fireworks causing any part of grass or trees to catch fire."

Koppen says this is something they have not seen for a very long time, and wants the public to be safe.
