Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On December 1, 2023, the Missoula Police Department announced that an elderly woman passed away following a fatal accident that occurred just after 11:15 am in the 3200 block of West Broadway. According to Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett, officers responded promptly to a distress call reporting a pedestrian-involved incident.  

“Upon arrival, patrol officers discovered that a female, approximately 78 years old, had been struck by a vehicle,” Bennett said. “Despite immediate and intensive efforts by emergency personnel on-site, the victim succumbed to her injuries. The 73-year-old male driver has been identified as cooperative with the ongoing investigation. Preliminary information indicates that the driver remained at the scene and has been actively engaging with law enforcement officials.” 

Bennett said the Missoula Police Department appreciates the cooperation of the driver as investigators work diligently to establish the full details surrounding the tragic incident.

“Accident investigators and detectives from the Missoula Police Department are actively engaged in an ongoing investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident,” Bennett said. “Due to the nature of the ongoing investigation and pending notification of next of kin, the Missoula Police Department is withholding the release of the victim's name at this time. Authorities are making every effort to contact the next of kin to ensure that proper notifications are made before releasing any identifying information.” 

Bennett added that the Missoula Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic incident.
