Missoula Police Uncover Drugs, Weapons, and Explosives
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On February 12, 2025, a Missoula Police Department Detective applied for and was granted a search warrant for the apartment of 21-year-old Kolten Ewart. The detective was conducting a follow-up on a report of a minor female, Jane Doe, who disclosed that she had been drugged and raped by Ewart in his apartment.
Doe reported that she knows Ewart deals drugs such as ‘shrooms, Xanax, and marijuana and further stated she observed Ewart to be in possession of shrooms previously. Officers arrived and executed the search warrant on Ewart’s apartment. Ewart was found inside the apartment and was detained.
Officers located a large safe in the back room of the apartment. The detective located several pounds of an over-the-counter explosive known as “Tannerite” on top of the safe. While searching the safe, the detective found a box containing a large amount of cash.
Recognizing that his warrant did not include property subject to forfeiture, the detective applied for and was granted an additional warrant. Officers seized large empty needles, an ammunition can with various rounds of ammunition, a plastic bag that contained what later tested presumptively positive for cocaine, and a .22 caliber revolver.
The detective also located a black backpack at the bottom of the safe. The backpack contained MDMA, a wrapped-up piece of tinfoil with red translucent plastic paper, and a bag of Ketamine.
The detective noted that the paper appeared to be precut pull tabs, which he suspected to be LSD. Within the main compartment of the backpack, the detective located a large zipper bag of psilocybin mushrooms. In the bottom of the safe, the detective located a Louis Vuitton Box which contained $988, and an open plastic bag that contained more psilocybin mushrooms.

While searching the bathroom, the detective located various pill bottles that were prescribed to Ewart and one that did not have a name present but was found to be an empty bottle of Xanax. Within another bedroom of the apartment, the detective seized several items related to the ongoing investigation of the rape, as well as a Black Ordnance AR-style rifle. The detective noted the rifle contained an extra-long magazine with rounds in the magazine.
Following the search, Ewart was placed under arrest and was informed that the detective’s search warrant also allowed him to obtain a DNA reference sample for Ewart. Ewart asked what would happen if he refused to provide a sample. The detective responded that he would be held down and a sample would be taken from him. Ewart allowed the detective to obtain a sample.
Ewart is currently being charged with felony criminal possession with intent to distribute and three counts of felony unlawful use/possession of property subject to criminal forfeiture. His bond was set at $25,000.
