Missoula Driver Flips SUV After Wild Police Chase
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On May 10, 2025, a Missoula Police Department Officer was patrolling downtown when he observed a vehicle with suspicious driving behavior in the area of West Front Street and Broadway Street. The officer observed a dark colored SUV approach a stop sign at a high rate of speed and then stop abruptly.
A short time later, the officer observed the SUV slam on its brakes, raising the rear end of the vehicle in the air, nearly hitting a pedestrian crossing the road in a crosswalk. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.
The SUV failed to yield. Then it crossed the center double yellow lines and drove in the opposite lane of traffic for several seconds. The SUV continued and accelerated to approximately 44mph in a posted 30mph area.

The SUV Reached a Speed of 98mph
The SUV continued to drive east and then turned north onto Van Buren Street. Then the officer observed the SUV turn east onto I-90 and accelerate to an estimated 98mph. The SUV continued east and exited at mile marker 107. The SUV drove on the shoulder of the road, nearly losing control as it entered the grass.
The officer then observed the SUV run through the stop sign at approximately 40-45mph, before turning towards East Missoula. The SUV then made an illegal turn over a double yellow line and entered the westbound ramp onto I-90.
According to court documents, the SUV was driving approximately 109mph on the left side of the road, near the cement traffic barrier. The SUV slammed into the barrier, which caused the SUV to flip several times, nearly striking an eastbound semitruck. The SUV eventually landed upright, facing north.
Driver Fights With Officer
The officer observed a single female within the SUV, and she was identified as 38-year-old Amy Lewis. The officer began to assess Lewis’ injuries, during which time Lewis became combative, pulling away from officers, and kicking her feet. Lewis refused to cooperate with officers and had to be forcefully removed from the SUV. She resisted when an officer attempted to place her in handcuffs. Eventually, Lewis had to be placed in a WRAP restraint.
While observing the SUV, an officer observed an open and empty bottle of whiskey on the passenger floor, as well as a marijuana cigarette container on the floor in the backseat. During the investigation, it was found that Lewis was on probation. The officer called the on-call probation officer, who requested a PBT of Lewis. However, due to Lewis’ level of uncooperativeness, a PBT could not be obtained.

Lewis was transported to the hospital via ambulance while in the WRAP restraint. Once at the hospital, Lewis continued to escalate by yelling at staff until the hospital elected to sedate Lewis. After being medically cleared, Lewis was taken to the Missoula County Detention Center.
