For Missoula County residents, open burn season officially ended today, July 8.

"It's really just a closure of open burning in Missoula County," said Missoula County Fire Protection Association spokesman Matt Hall. "So any brush clearing or any debris burning that you would have around your property is closed at this time, but 2x2 campfires are still permitted."

The county fire danger level increased to moderate last week, which was a major consideration in the ban on open burning. The open burning ban occurs every year around early July, but this year’s ban kicked-in about a week later than normal.
