Missoulians have grown accustomed over the years to watching a 4th of July fireworks show at Southgate Mall, but the show will be in a different venue this year. Southgate Mall Marketing Director Tricia Shepherd says they couldn’t do the show last year because of a cancellation from the fireworks company.

“We found a new company that could do it for us this year,” said Shepherd. “We are moving it over to the fairgrounds because the Mary Avenue construction coming through the mall property will be going on. It is supposed to start in about the next week. We had to relocate things over to the fairgrounds, which we are super excited about.”

According to Shepherd, the Missoula County Fairgrounds is the ideal location for a fireworks show.

“There is a nice big area,” Shepherd said. “It is very centrally located so no matter where you are at you will be able to see it. I know we get a ton of viewers on the south hills. Those folks will still be able to enjoy a really awesome show up there on south hills if that is what they are used to doing, but we have a lot of space down at the fairgrounds too for families to come and just enjoy the evening.”

A city band will kick off the event at 9 p.m. and the fireworks are expected to begin around 10:30 p.m. As always, admission to the show is free of charge.
