The former chairwoman of the Missoula County Fairgrounds Advisory Committee has resigned after another cancellation of a monthly meeting this week.

According to the Missoulian, the committee hasn’t met since May, and Diane Beck told county commissioners in her resignation letter it has become “a complete waste of my time.” Fairgrounds Director Todd Garrett responded:

"First I just want to say that I value and am thankful for all committee member and other volunteer's time that they've contributed to the fairgrounds," Garrett said. "I want to say that that time in particular with the advisory committee has brought us up to the point where we're culminating a long term planning effort that's going to guide and accelerate improvements to the fairgrounds for years to come."

Looking forward, Garrett thinks improvements are on the horizon.

"I think it's an exciting time as we get closer to finalizing plans, communicating that plan to the public I think would be exciting for advisory committee members to play a role in that, and also to play a role in showcasing the plan, hopefully at the 15th fair, and being involved in some of the improvements," Garrett said. "Ultimately, the fairgrounds is going to be much more functional, a much more desirable place for the community to come, and just a wonderful amenity."

The Missoulian stated that Beck said she has no faith that things will improve under Garrett, but Garrett said the fairgrounds is in the best shape it’s been in a long time, not only in current remodeling of the bathrooms and repairing the grandstands, but also in terms of planning.

Projects within the fairgrounds are set to begin this spring.
