KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — A 53-year-old Marion man is seeking to withdraw his guilty plea in the January 2014 shooting death of his neighbor, with whom he had an ongoing feud.

The Daily Inter Lake reports (http://bit.ly/1E2YRse ) Mark Bolton Ames entered an Alford plea in September to mitigated deliberate homicide for the death of 60-year-old Harold Gordon. Court records said the two men lived in adjoining duplexes despite having restraining orders against each other.

In an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt but acknowledges prosecutors have enough evidence to gain a conviction.

Ames has filed motions to dismiss his public defenders and withdraw his plea. He argues he did not know the plea would negate a motion to dismiss the charge and didn't fully understand the agreement.
