At around 12:45 Tuesday afternoon, probation and parole officers requested the assistance of Missoula police officers at a casino in the 800 block of East Broadway. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“The police officers who responded were informed that a male on supervision, identified as 28-year-old John Steele, was currently in the casino and the probation officers had reason to make contact with him due to an outstanding warrant that he had,” Welsh said.

As the officers approached, they saw Steele exiting the building and quickly made contact with him.

“He initially attempted to deny that he was in fact John Steele,” Welsh said. “However, he was recognized and taken into custody. He was also found to be in possession of a substance that was later determined to be heroin. He was transported to the jail and is currently awaiting arraignment for drug possession.”

Steele is currently being held for criminal possession of dangerous drugs, criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia, and two outstanding warrants.
