Man on Probation Gets Caught With Meth and a Gun in Missoula
On March 8, 2022, at approximately 10:13 a.m., Missoula Police Department officers responded to a welfare check in the parking lot of the Motel 6 on East Broadway. A male was reportedly passed out in the driver seat of a vehicle.
On the way to the incident, officers were made aware that the male had a pistol on his right hip. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.
“Officers responded along with fire and medical, and probation and parole, for a report of a male passed out in a vehicle,” Arnold said. “When officers arrived on scene, the male was identified as Derek Trumbull who is currently on probation and parole. Probation and parole who were on scene requested officers conduct a probation search of Trumbull and his possessions. During the search, officers located dangerous drugs, drug paraphernalia, and weapons.”
Trumbull was asked to step out of the vehicle and he cooperated with officers as they placed him into handcuffs. Officers located a Glock 17 on Trumbull’s person and removed it. The driver door was left open by Trumbull when he stepped out of the vehicle. From outside of the vehicle, an officer observed multiple butane torches in the center console, tin foil on the ground of the driver seat, and a metal straw on the ground.
During a search of the vehicle, officers located numerous items of drug paraphernalia and two boxes of ammo. During an inventory search at the jail, an officer located a baggie of meth and a glass pipe with residue.
Trumbull is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, criminal possession of drug paraphernalia, and carrying a concealed weapon while under the influence.
