A 40-year-old Missoula man who ran his twin brother over with a van has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of attempted mitigated deliberate homicide.

Alberto Guillen entered his plea in District Court on Thursday and also pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to stop at the scene of an accident in which someone was hurt. He was initially charged with attempted deliberate homicide.

Prosecutors say Guillen and his twin brother, Roberto Guillen, were arguing July 30 and exchanged punches before Roberto Guillen rode off on his bicycle. Witnesses say Alberto Guillen threatened to kill his brother and then struck him with his van, dragging him underneath.

Roberto Guillen was hospitalized in serious condition.

Judge John Larson set Alberto Guillen's sentencing hearing for Dec. 29.
