Man Gets 60 Years in Prison For Fire Deaths

BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A Montana man who pleaded guilty to starting a trailer fire in April 2013 that killed four people has been sentenced to 60 years in prison.

District Judge Gregory Todd sentenced 22-year-old Robert Bottenhagen on Tuesday, saying the Billings man had failed to take responsibility for his actions.

Prosecutors say Bottenhagen and co-defendant Zaccary John Kern had been drinking with the four victims and were still in the trailer when the others went to bed. Kern said Bottenhagen set a fire in the kitchen and the two men ran out without awakening the victims or calling 911.

The fire in the Lockwood trailer killed 33-year-old Amber-Marie Beyers, 25-year-old Donovan Fogle, 25-year-old Brandi Hansen Moats and 28-year-old Troy Saylor.

Todd also ordered Bottenhagen to pay $18,700 in restitution.
