At around 1:40 p.m. on Tuesday, someone called Missoula Police and reported that a sexual assault had just occurred near the intersection of South Avenue and South Higgins. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“The complainant reported that an unknown male had approached her and grabbed her buttocks without her permission and then ran off,” Welsh said. “She was yelling at him and he turned and cocked a fist in a manner which made her feel threatened.”

According to Welsh, officers patrolled the area and found the suspect in the 800 block of South Avenue West.

“He was identified as 23-year-old Calvin Fischer,” Welsh said. “During the course of that investigation, they were also informed that Fischer was a suspect in a similar type of incident that had occurred at the mall the night before. It was a very similar type of complaint, except in that particular case, the victim was a female under the age of 16.”

At the end of the investigation, Fischer was taken into custody and is currently being held on charges of sexual assault. Fischer was charged with one count of felony sexual assault because one of the victims was under the age of 16.
