Man Attempts to Steal a Large Delivery Truck, Gets Caught With Meth
Just before 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Missoula Police Officers responded to a report of an attempted vehicle theft in the 3800 block of Reserve Street. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.
“A man had reported that another male had attempted to take his large delivery truck as he was making a delivery at a business there,” Welsh said. “The officers met with the male who reported that as he was making deliveries, or attempting to unload his trailer, he heard his vehicle start up. He said he went to the front of the truck. He looked in the cab and found a strange man in the driver’s seat who was attempting to put the truck in gear.”
Court documents indicate the truck was parked with the keys in the ignition. The complainant assumed the male was attempting to drive away.
“He said when he confronted the male, the male got out of the truck and left on foot,” Welsh said. “An officer in the area located this man at the intersection of Dore Lane and Brooks Street. He was identified as 40-year-old Dustin Clark and placed under arrest for attempted theft. He was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.”
Clark claimed he thought the truck driver was his friend. He also acknowledged that he had entered and started the truck. Clark told the officer that he had methamphetamine and a syringe in his pocket. The officer located those items and two pipes as well.
Clark was charged with felony attempted theft and felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
