Hello, it’s Peter Christian from Newstalk KGVO, but for this article, I’m simply writing as the Public Address Announcer at Montana Grizzly Football games.

Being the ‘PA Guy’ for the past 25 years has allowed me to not only witness the most exciting moments in Grizzly football history, like the incredible comeback win in the playoffs against South Dakota State or the battle in the snow during a Winter Storm Warning against Appalachian State that sent us to the National Championship game, but on the flip side to also be an observer of human nature and see close-up and personal, the most heartbreaking scene in sports.

Imagine this; the Griz have just scored on a 100-yard kickoff return and the crowd is going crazy. From my vantage point high above the 37-yard line on the south side of the stadium, I look down on a sea of people giving and receiving the traditional ‘high five’.

Unfortunately, I also see the human heartbreak that occurs when a high five is not returned, leaving the Griz fan expectantly with his or her hands in the air…turning to the left…then to the right…but emotionally crushed when that joyful high five is not returned.

Something must be done!

I’m sure no one would ever deliberately refuse to high-five a fellow Griz fan, but sadly, it does happen.

Here’s a possible solution…

One might rotate high fiving; first to the left, then to the right, and then to the fan standing directly behind, but keeping an eye out for that lonely soul achingly waiting for their high five to be returned.

Griz fans have hearts of gold…and I know once this tragic phenomenon is pointed out then no one will ever have to sit down after the play emotionally bruised and ‘un’ high-fived!

Despite the heartbreak, a life can still be changed and a broken heart mended if a kind and benevolent Twinkie tosser, or Ding Dong Disher delivers a treat…to their seat!

So, keep all this in mind for the Homecoming game on Saturday, and high five in good health!

And….GO GRIZ!!
