The Missoula County Parks and Trails Advisory Board has named Jean Belangi-Nye as the 2013 Parks and Trails Steward, for her extraordinary dedication to, and advocacy for parks, trails and their users.

Missoula County Parks and Trails Program Manager Lisa Moisey said on Monday, December 9, that the steward award has been given out for the past 10 years.

"Since 2003, the Missoula County Parks and Trails Advisory Board has recognized exceptional people or organizations that work on behalf of area parks and trails," Moisey said. "This year's award recipient is Jean Belangi-Nye from Lolo."

Moisey said Belangi-Nye has been a constant advocate for a non-motorized trail from Missoula all the way to Lolo.

"She was instrumental in helping to secure a pathway from Lolo to the south," Moisey said. "Most recently, she helped to secure the opportunity to make a non-motorized connection from Lolo to Missoula. Missoula County received a $4.5 million federal Tiger Grant to help with that trail connection."

Moisey said the award will be presented to Belangi-Nye later in the week,

"It will be presented on Thursday, December 12 at the Missoula County Parks and Trails Advisory Board meeting at 1:30 p.m.in room B-14 in the basement level of the Missoula County administration building at 199 West Pine Street."
