Governor Celebrates ‘Largest Tax Cut in the History of Montana’
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - Montana Governor Greg Gianforte held an open-air bill signing event on the steps of the Capitol Building on Monday, flanked by dozens of legislators, celebrating what he referred to as ‘the largest tax cut in Montana history'.
Income tax cut, that is.
Governor Gianforte Lauded His Income Tax Reduction Victory
“Today, we're delivering the largest tax cut in state history, returning $756 million to the pocketbooks of hard-working Montanans,” began Governor Gianforte. “With House Bill 337, Montana taxpayers at every income level will see a permanent tax reduction.”
Gianforte described the progression of tax cuts that Montanans can expect in the years to come.
Gianforte said by 2027, the Income Tax Rate would be only 5.4 Percent
“We are cutting the tax rate that most Montanans pay from 5.9 percent to 5.65 percent in 2026, and then further reducing it to 5.4 percent in 2027.”
Gianforte welcomed Speaker of the Montana House of Representatives Brandon Ler to the microphone, who lauded the efforts of the legislature to provide permanent income tax relief to all working Montanans.
“Today is a historic day for the people of Montana,” he said. “Standing here on the steps of the Capitol, I'm proud to say, we are delivering on the largest income tax cut in the history of the state. “House Bill 337 isn't just about lowering tax rates, it's about raising up working families, and it's about making Montana a place where hard work is rewarded.”
As Far as Property Tax and Judiciary Reform, Gianforte said 'Let's Get it Done'
In closing, Gianforte reminded lawmakers that his other ‘must-do’ goals still remain, as the legislature draws to an end.
“Montana sent us to Helena to serve them, deliver on their priorities, and get the job done,” he said. “That's what I'm focused on every day, as I know the legislators behind me are as well. For the sake of hard-working Montana families, we must check off the remaining items on Montana's to-do list. There's still time on the clock. Montanans are counting on us, so let's get it done.”
One of the glaring items on the Governor’s ‘to-do’ list is meaningful property tax reform, which has bedeviled both state houses in the attempt to find a bill that can be voted into law, while another is judicial reform.
