University of Montana quarterback Jordan Johnson was charged Tuesday afternoon with sexual intercourse without consent, after a lengthy investigation by the Missoula County Attorney's Office.

Johnson has been ordered to appear for arraignment in District Court on August 14th at 9:30 a.m. Charging documents are attached.

Jordan and his family are surprised and saddened by the county’s decision to levy a criminal charge now, given that the encounter between Jordan and the complainant occurred in early February and the police have been aware of the allegation since she filed a report 6 weeks later.  Jordan strongly maintains his innocence and looks forward to the opportunity to prove his innocence at trial, clear his name and return to pursuing his education.”

University of Montana President Royce Engstrom provided this comment:

University of Montana Head Football Coach Mick Delaney says it's time to move ahead and concentrate on the players remaining at the quarterback spot. He says it's too late to search for a drop-down quarterback, but after the news about Jordan Johnson was made public, a quarterback may try to contact Montana on his own. Fall drills begin August 6th.
