Jail Suicide Victim Identified

A 27 year-old Missoula woman hanged herself in the Missoula County Detention Facility late Tuesday night, and the Ravalli County coroner’s office, tasked with handling the coroner’s duties,  has officially released her name, according to Missoula County sheriff’s captain Rich Maricelli..

Maricelli explained that whenever a death occurs at a detention facility, outside agencies are called in to investigate. The Missoula Police Department will handle the investigation of the suicide at the jail, while the Ravalli County Coroner’s office is handling coroner’s duties. Brilz was arrested on a probation violation by University of Montana Police and brought to the Detention Center, where she hanged herself. She was taken to St. Patrick Hospital at about 11 o’clock Tuesday night, where she was declared dead. Maricelli says the Montana State Crime Lab will determine the exact cause of Brilz’s death..
