There are a lot of places in Montana that could be considered local landmarks. I'm talking about places that have been around for a really long time that have essentially become a part of the fabric of Montana.

Unfortunately, many of those places have disappeared over the years in the name of progress. Also, owning and operating a business has become much more expensive than it used to be.

I recently learned that The Inn on the Gallatin has officially closed for good. The owners have decided to retire and enjoy their golden years. In addition to offering cabin rentals and RV spaces, the cafe was always packed, especially on the weekends. At one time, the restaurant was open to the public, but in recent years, it was reserved for people staying at the Inn. On occasion, the cafe would open to the public by reservation only. The last public breakfast took place last fall.

The owners of the Inn on the Gallatin sent a heartfelt message to customers and thanked them for their support throughout the years. Here's what it said.

Dear Valued Guest,

We are saddened yet excited to inform you that as of February 12, 2023, The Inn on the Gallatin is closing its doors for good. Deanne and I have enjoyed our time with all returning guests and the excitement of owning and operating the Inn, but its time. Time to retire, time to stop cleaning cabins, cooking, and serving in the café, working 7 days a week. We dreamed of someday doing some traveling to places we enjoy or have never been as well as enjoying Montana to its fullest while blessed good health will allow it. Now is the time!

These past 11 years have been tremendous, and we cannot thank all those who have supported us through the years enough, it has been an immense pleasure getting to know everyone. For our first-time guests, we apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. It seems there is never a perfect time to announce retirement in the hospitality business and we are announcing the closure as quickly as we could. We have not sold the property, and no one will be taking over the business. We plan to live here and make this our home on the river.

If you booked a reservation for 2023, all deposits taken for reservations will be fully refunded.
