While Montana's temperature starts to increase, the state will start to see an increase in visitors as well. Tourist season will be here soon enough, and Montana has some amazing places that attract a lot of people.

Two of the most popular places in the state that attract visitors are our national parks. Both Yellowstone and Glacier have once again made the list of the most popular national parks in the country.

The number one most popular national park again last year was the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which had over 12 million visitors last year, according to the Park Service and USA Today. They reported that last year the National Park Service saw record numbers for visiting parks, with 331.8 million people visiting national parks last year.

Yellowstone was the most visited park in Montana with 4.7 million visitors last year. For some reason I always forget that a small part of Yellowstone National Park is also in Idaho.

Glacier National Park saw 3.2 million visitors in 2024. This year, the numbers for Glacier may be lower with the construction planned for the Many Glacier Valley. With limited car access and hikers will need to take a shuttle to the are.

For those that are looking to get away from the crowds and are looking for a park similar to Glacier National Park you can check out North Cascades National Park, which is a days drive away in Washington and is one of the least visited national parks in the country.

If you plan to visit either of Montana's national parks this season know there will be crowds and be safe out there.
