Major New Retailer Opens at Missoula’s Southgate Mall

There have been some noticeable changes at Missoula’s Southgate Mall over the past couple of months, and 2026 is shaping up to look a little different for local shoppers.  

The year began with the announcement that Elote Mexican Grille would be closing its doors. The restaurant occupied a large, highly visible space near the front of the mall, making it a popular stop for shoppers looking to grab a bite. Its departure left many wondering what might fill the vacancy and what other changes could be on the way.

Now, Southgate Mall is welcoming a new addition. JD Sports has officially opened its doors, marking the brand’s first location in Montana. If you’ve walked through the mall recently, you may have noticed “coming soon” signs without an opening date.

That changed when the mall announced the grand opening on its social media pages. JD Sports adds another major sportswear option for shoppers, joining established retailers like Scheels, Lids, Pro Image Sports, and Bob Ward’s Sports and Outdoors.  

The new store features a wide selection of athletic footwear, including popular Nike retro Air Jordans and classic Adidas styles. In addition to shoes, JD Sports carries a variety of athletic apparel, streetwear-inspired looks, and team jerseys.
