It’s about that time, we can pretty much call it on the Montana ski season. A few late runs here and there? Sure. But for most of us, it’s time to hang it up and start thinking about warmer days.

That said, this time of year always gets me a little nostalgic.

Growing Up Skiing at Marshall Mountain

I learned to ski at Marshall Mountain, which, if you know, you know. Back then, it wasn’t about fancy gear or perfect conditions. I was out there in jeans because that’s what we had. No ski pants, no problem, at least that’s what we told ourselves while freezing on the chairlift.

I was part of the after-school ski program, so we’d pile onto a school bus, head up the mountain, ski until we couldn’t feel our toes, then ride the bus back to Russell School. And yeah, after all that, I still had to walk home. Different times.

I eventually switched to snowboarding in high school, and that’s when Montana Snowbowl became my mountain.

And here’s the thing: if you learned at Snowbowl, you probably heard the same thing I did: if you can ride here, you can ride anywhere. Honestly, it’s kind of true.

Snowbowl doesn’t mess around. It forces you to learn the whole mountain. And if you’ve ever dropped into Spartan Headwall, especially back when that was basically your way down, you know exactly what I’m talking about. You either figure it out fast, or you’re in for a long day.

Why Snowbowl Makes Better Skiers

That’s why this video, making the rounds from Barstool Sports, hit home for me. It’s raw, it’s real, and it captures exactly what makes Snowbowl special: the challenge, the chaos, and the community. Barstool Sports has over 48.6 million followers, and the video has over 64,000 views.

Even though the lifts are slowing down for the season, this is the kind of stuff that already gets you looking forward to next year.
