The new year started with news that Missoula’s Elote Mexican Grille was closing its doors for good. The announcement came early in January via a social media post. Another eatery has closed its doors this January with far less fanfare.

In case you missed it, Missoula has lost one of its last standalone frozen yogurt stores. 406 Frozen Yogurt has permanently closed its southside location in the Russell Park Square. When I recently went grocery shopping at Albertsons in the same area, I noticed that the store was closed. I hadn’t realized it earlier because there are often cars parked outside the business.

When U-Swirl Became 406 Frozen Yogurt

406 Frozen Yogurt used to be U-Swirl Frozen Yogurt. Before the name change, I would go there a lot. U-Swirl was a great place to take my kids after a soccer or lacrosse game on the south side of town. My kids really enjoyed that place. The first few times we went there, I made the mistake of letting my kids get as many toppings on the yogurt as they wanted.

They would charge by weight, so I learned quickly to limit toppings to just one. When U-Swirl changed to 406 Frozen Yogurt, I still had U-Swirl punch cards in my wallet. Since my kids have grown, I haven't had a reason to go there over the past few years.
