Investigation Leads To Drug Arrest Near a Missoula Trail

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On June 9, 2025, Missoula Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of a disturbance in the area of the Kim Williams Trail. While searching the area for an unaccounted female, who may have been the victim of a PFMA or sexual intercourse without consent, responding officers were contacting nearby campers in the area.  

An officer was notified that a male was approximately 50 yards or so east of the crime scene. The officer located the male at a camp and approached him. The officer asked the male if he had heard a disturbance earlier in the day between a man and a woman. The male initially stated he had heard something.  

The officer then asked the male for his first and last name. The male refused to identify himself and began arguing. The officer explained that he needed the name for his on-going investigation. The male eventually identified himself as “Krystin Tigen.” The officer attempted to verify the spelling of the given name, but the male refused. Another provided the correct spelling of the male’s name, 42-year-old Curstin Teigen.

Teigen is Placed Under Arrest 

The officer was informed that Teigen had a warrant. Officers placed Teigen under arrest. During a search incident to arrest, they located a small bag in Teigen’s left pocket. Both officers observed a small zippered bag that contained a white powdery substance, as well as a glass pipe, and a rubber container with a crystal-like substance inside.  

An officer recognized, through his training and experience, that the bag and pipe were items of drug paraphernalia. The officer noted that the bag was used to store and possess dangerous drugs, and the pipe appeared to be used to smoke and inhale the fumes of dangerous drugs.  

The officer also recognized that the white crystal-like substance appeared to be methamphetamine. The substance was later tested using the TruNarc, which provided a presumptive positive for methamphetamine.

Teigen was transported to the Missoula County Detention Center. He is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
