Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - The Missoula County Attorney’s Office filed 10 new felony complaints this week, which is four fewer than last week and significantly lower than the weekly average. According to Lead Deputy County Attorney Brittney Williams, that is two slow weeks in a row.

“There were two violent crimes against persons, three endangerment crimes, two property crimes, one drug crime, and two administrative crimes. That being said, our office has been very busy. The Miles Miller homicide trial is going on this week. We've had everyone in our office supporting the attorneys that are involved in that and helping out in any way that we can.”

That trial started on Tuesday this week, and Williams believes it will continue into the better part of next week. They are also preparing for a few other big trials.

“We’ve been having a lot of these trials, but thankfully we've been getting to them more quickly than we have been,” Williams said. “We were in that slump slightly from COVID. We're getting caught back up on some of these bigger trials. It'll be nice to have some of these larger-scale trials seen to completion and to get these victims and families some closure. We're looking forward to continuing our steady work here at the County Attorney's Office.”

When there is a big trial, Williams said it is all hands on deck.

“We have victim witness coordinators, paralegals, and other attorneys that are researching things and preparing point briefs, doing court coverage, charging, and different things like that. The last homicide trial that I prepared for, I was probably preparing every weekend for six weeks before the trial was set to go. So it's probably a solid six weeks of preparation to prepare for a homicide trial.”

The Missoula County Attorney’s Office provides a weekly crime report every Friday morning at 9:00 on Talk Back.
