Ground breaking for the construction of the Missoula to Lolo trail will take place tomorrow. Community and Planning Services Planner Christina Dascenzo said this project has been in the works for a long time.

"Organizations and individuals have been working together, over 20 years to make this happen and it will fill in an eight mile gap that exists between Lolo and Missoula," said Dascenzo."And that will ultimately connect all the way down to Hamilton in a trail that is already in place. So that's connecting 50 miles of trail."

Dascenzo said while a large portion came from a grant, a good amount came from the city of Missoula itself.

"The rest of the funding is coming from both the Missoula county and the city of Missoula, and those figures are not right in front of me right now, but it's about $600,000," Dascenzo said.

The estimated time to finish building the trail will be one year, then people will be able to start hiking and biking. The event is at 4 p.m. near Farmer's State Bank.
