Going-to-the-Sun Road Now Open in Glacier National Park
It has felt like summer in Missoula for about a month, but Glacier National Park has just finished plowing the roads out to open up the full park. Park Information Officer Lauren Alley explains
"The Going-to-the-Sun Road opened fully, all the way from West Glacier to St. Mary, so folks can drive up and over the continental divide and see Logan Pass. Folks have been working pretty hard on plowing and clearing the road, in fact, even earlier this week we had another rock and snow slide come down at Rimrock and cover one of the lanes."
Visitors should be aware that even if the snow is off the road, it still comes down from the sky from time to time.
"The difference between 3,000 feet above sea level and 6,000 feet above sea level, even just at the Logan Pass visitor center, can be really significant, so plan for wind and even snow," Alley said. "Bring your coats and gloves if you do venture up there."
Alley said that, as of Tuesday, there were no closures in the park due to bears or snow, but that can change quickly and visitors are advised to go to the Glacier National Park website for closure updates.
