A fire that started in a pile of debris at the former Smurfitt-Stone millsite on Sunday night wasn't officially out until late Monday afternoon, according to Frenchtown Fire Chief Joe Calnan. He says the fire traveled through piles of debris from a building that had been demolished by M2 Green Redevelopment. Just when firefighters thought they had the fire out, it would pop up again.

Calnan spent Sunday night at the site of the fire to make keep an eye on the situation. Calnan says Missoula Rural provided firefighting equipment and personnel, and the Missoula County Sheriff's Department handled traffic in the area. Calnan says no one was injured in the fire, and no nearby structures were threatened.
