KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — Judge Ted O. Lympus is retiring early this summer, ending a 23-year stint on the bench that made him the longest-sitting district court judge in Flathead County.

The Daily Inter Lake reports (http://bit.ly/1KP4qS6) the 72-year-old judge said in a news release he wants to spend more time with his family.

Lympus was born in Missoula and served as Flathead County's attorney for 13 years before becoming a judge in 1992.

He ran unopposed in 2012 for a term that would have expired in 2018.
