Fight Over Apartment Leads to Strangulation, Arrest

Missoula Police responded to a domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex in the 200 block of North Avenue West on Monday afternoon, August 20. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh says the incident occurred around 2:18 p.m.

"Wen they arrived they found a female sitting on the front porch," Welsh said. "They made contact with her and she seemed to be very upset. Soon after a male came out of the residence and sat out on the front porch while the female was speaking to officers a distance away. Other officers made contact with him and learned that the two had been arguing, apparently over the possibility of losing their apartment."

It appears the argument over the apartment turned to violence by both parties, but police only ended up charging 27-year-old Tyler Cahoone with a felony.

"It had escalated to a point where there was a physical altercation," Welsh said. "The female had suffered minor injuries and the male had also suffered minor injuries. The officers learned that there had been an allegation of strangulation. There was apparent evidence that coincided with that statement and Mr. Cahoone was arrested."

Cahoone is facing a felony strangulation charge and a misdemeanor partner or family member assault charge, jail records indicate that this is his first time facing an assault charge.
