Fergus County Sheriff's deputies are trying to sort out what happened over the weekend when a suspect opened fire on a semi, resulting in a fire that destroyed the truck and sent the driver and a passenger running into a field for cover.
The incident happened on U.S. 191 early Sunday morning, with the driver calling 9-1-1 at Central Montana Dispatch and reporting someone was firing shots at his truck. Deputies from Fergus County, Wheatland County and Judith Basin County responded, and by the time they found the truck, it was fully engulfed in flames and the pair inside had taken cover.
Moore Fire and Hobson firefighters were called to put out the blaze, and a short time later, deputies found the suspect's vehicle. He was stopped and arrested at gunpoint with no further issues.

Missoula shootout leads to injuries

Missoula Police arrested two people early Sunday after a man came into the police station with a gunshot wound, saying his car had been hit by gunfire.
Police found shell casings, and another man on Ryman who'd been involved in the shootings, saying the gunfire happened in a busy downtown location, with multiple pedestrians in the area, and that means criminal endangerment charges.
33-year-old Laurent Mugondozi and 36-year-old Anthony Brodie have been charged with Attempted Homicide and Criminal Endangerment. Mugondozi was also charged with his 3rd DUI.

UM President finalists meets with public today

The man who could take over leadership at the University of Montana will be on campus today and tomorrow, meeting with staff, students, and community leaders.
Dr. Jeremiah Shinn is currently the interim president at Boise State, and emerged as a finalist from the list of what Montana Commissioner of Higher Education Clayton Christensen calls a range of "strong applicants.
There's a public forum on the 3rd floor of the University Center this afternoon, starting at 3:30 pm.
