Extra Charges Expected In Flathead Against Man Who Wouldn’t Leave His Car
The Flathead County Sheriff's Office is continuing to investigate details of a chase and standoff that resulted in the arrest of a wanted man with several felony warrants in the Swan Valley earlier this week.
Now, it appears likely the Wednesday's incident will result in additional charges against the suspect.
Flathead County and Lake County Sheriff's deputies were involved in the confrontation, which started early Wednesday morning. Authorities say Lake County received information that Anthony Trebas, who was wanted on warrants for intimidation and violating the terms of an earlier release was near Swan Lake.
FCSO deputies tried to stop Trebas around 9 am, but said he kept going until he turned off into a driveway off Highway 83 south of Swan Lake and refused to come out of his car. Deputies believed there was a handgun in the car, so they called for the Northwest Regional SWAT team to come to the scene as a precaution.
Authorities say it took two hours of negotiations before Trebas agreed to leave the car and surrender to deputies. He was arrested without anyone being hurt, and a passenger in the car was also taken into custody and then taken from the scene.
In a statement on the Flathead County Sheriff's Facebook page, Sheriff Brian Heino said he had "great respect and appreciation for the staff and leadership of cooperating agencies" to keep people in the community safe.
