The Missoula County Attorney’s Office filed 15 new felony complaints this week, which is two more than last week and right around the weekly average. Chief Deputy County Attorney Mac Bloom provided the report.

“Six of those crimes were violent crimes against persons,” Bloom said. “Three of those six were family violence strangulation crimes and the other three were non-family violence robbery type crimes. We charged three endangerment crimes, one property crime, and five drug crimes for a total of 15, which is a little under average which is good.”

Bloom said the big news this week was the tragic pedestrian fatality on Higgins Street.

“I just wanted to, on behalf of the office, express my condolences to that individual's family and to his friends in the community who knew him,” Bloom said. “We've, at this point, notified next of kin. We've been working really closely with the Missoula Police Department to do a full investigation to figure out exactly what happened and to determine whether any criminal charges are going to be warranted based on the situation.”

Bloom added that it is important to be extra cautious when traveling during the holidays.

“There are a lot of people out for Christmas, doing shopping, going out to dinner, and spending time with family and friends,” Bloom said. “People just need to be really, really careful when they're driving around and when they're crossing crosswalks. Look out for yourself and others because we have too many of these crashes, unfortunately.”

The Missoula County Attorney’s Office provides a weekly crime report every Friday morning at 9:00 on Talk Back. You can listen to Bloom’s full report below:
