On Saturday night when fans arrive at Washington-Grizzly Stadium for the home opener against Northern Iowa, campus officials will be working harder to ensure a safe atmosphere with some enhanced security.

In addition to visual bag checks, security personnel will be also be screening fans by using metal-detecting wands at all entry gates.

Because of these additional security procedures, Griz fans need to plan for some extra time to enter the stadium and get to their seats before kickoff at 7:05 p.m.

University officials will work hard to ensure entry into the stadium goes as quickly and as safely as possible, however fans can keep delays at a minimum by bringing only necessary items into Washington Grizzly Stadium.

Also, expect to see more personnel who will be working Montana’s home games this season. They will include officers from cooperating city and county law enforcement, fire department and emergency medical service agencies. All of these personnel will be on hand to respond to any emergencies and to assist with crowd management, if needed.

Starting next season in 2019, the University of Montana will be implementing a new policy that will limit all fans to just one clear bag for their personal items.

University officials appreciate your patience with the new security policies.

In a separate matter, the UM Athletic department announced on Friday morning that Grizzly football player Jeremy Calhoun has been suspended for two games for violating the UM student-athlete code of conduct.

On May 5, Calhoun was allegedly involved in a fight outside a downtown bar in which a UM student was injured. Deputy Missoula County Attorney Mac Bloom released a statement on Friday after noon stating:

'We have been working with the victim to gather additional information about his injuries and expect to file a complaint in the next couple of weeks.'

Calhoun, an All Big Sky running back, is a senior from Long Beach Poly High School. His brother, junior Justin Calhoun has been converted from a wide receiver to cornerback on this year's team.
