Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks has confirmed that the elk seen chasing a Missoula motorcyclist near Ovando on a widely distributed viral video has been killed.

FWP spokeswoman Vivica Crowser said the elk was shot on October 9, before the elk became an internet sensation.

"Before the video was taken, and definitely before it was posted, this was an elk we had received multiple reports of spending time close to humans and getting a little bit aggressive," Crowser said. "It was one that was on our radar and actually, it was one that, because of those reasons, one that we killed before the video was even posted. So it wasn't the video that prompted it."

Crowser could not elaborate on what other instances the elk had been involved with other than that it had come too close to humans and/or homes on multiple occasions.
