Driver Dies After High Speed Crash Into Missoula Home
Missoula Police are interviewing a passenger that survived a deadly single vehicle car crash late Monday night. According to Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh, the car was traveling at a high rate of speed, heading north on Johnson before the crash.
"Officers responded and found a car that came to rest in an alley just north of 13th street," said Welsh. "They also discovered that an adult male driver was deceased. The adult male passenger was conscious, breathing and able to speak to investigators."
The crash not only took the life of the driver, it did a great deal of damage to at least one nearby property. The intersection was still blocked off 12 hours later.
"For reasons yet unknown, the driver left the roadway and crashed through the property," Welsh said. "It looks like there are a couple areas of fence that were damaged. The car did clip a corner of the house and caused some damage. From the layman's point of view, it doesn't look like the structure of the house is threatened at all. However, the shed that the car went through looks like it is completely destroyed."
Investigators are still trying to figure out what led to the crash, it is unclear if the driver was intoxicated or suffered a heart attack in the moments before the accident. Residents were home during the accident and were awakened by the crash.
