Bozeman Republican Steve Daines is reporting that he raised $175,000 over the last quarter in his bid to succeed Montana Rep. Denny Rehberg.

Daines has raised a total of nearly $600,000 after first declaring a U.S. Senate bid last year. He switched to the House race when Rehberg announced early this year that he would challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Tester.

Democrats vying for the seat have yet to formally file campaign finance reports for the second quarter.

But state Sen. Kim Gillan, who only recently entered the race, has told campaign supporters that she is off to a "flying start" by raising $27,000 in the quarter.

And state Rep. Franke Wilmer of Bozeman expects her report will show about $40,000 in donations when it's filed by Friday's deadline.
